Superwhip (1991 Demo)

about

The genesis of this track was from a different song called "Hey" that John Ian Davis and I worked on in the late 80's in Champaign-Urbana, IL. I repurposed the main riff and turned it into a new song "Superwhip", collaborating with Michael "Kite" Audino, who thought it could use a circus music type part in the mid-section, and whom also added the "Superwhip" vocal in the chorus. This was another tune from the 1991 attempt at recording an album in a 24-track tape studio with little money while living hand to mouth in NYC that was eventually shelved. We remade the song entirely with the new 5-piece version of Tadpoles that formed in 1992, and that is the version that appeared on the album/demo tape "Superwhip."

lyrics

discover your mind's eye
rip the window blind
pull the shade
and let the stars shine in
beats like the sweating sun
beating on the wicked drum
your eyes your face your hands your mouth
crinkle up on the cereal box

superwhip

leave your house
open the car door
alison gets hit by the silver ball
that's just flown out of your mouth
she's down for good
kids gather around
call the clown
its time to play

superwhip

ride your bike
pull the sled
back up on the hill again
when noone's looking
noone's around
put it on the ground
and slide back down

superwhip
